LG Display Unveils Industry’s First 480Hz QHD Gaming OLED Display at CES 2024
SEOUL, Korea (Jan. 04, 2024) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that it has successfully completed the development of its 27-inch 480Hz QHD Gaming OLED display and prepared an official showcase for CES 2024, opening a new era of OLEDs featuring ultra-high refresh rates.
LG Display’s latest Gaming OLED display leverages the company’s unique OLED technology, which allows each pixel to emit light independently without a backlight unit, to deliver an unprecedented 480Hz refresh rate, immersive QHD (2,560 x 1,440) resolution, and the fastest response time (0.03ms) of any panel on the market today, combining to realize the optimal gaming experience for avid gamers.
The display’s 480Hz refresh rate represents its ability to generate 480 images per second. A higher refresh rate is considered a crucial element in gaming monitors as it makes gameplay smoother and clearer, even during rapid screen transitions.
LG Display’s Gaming OLED displays offer enhanced image quality through the company’s cutting-edge 'META Technology,' which crucially incorporates a 'Micro Lens Array (MLA)' to maximize the emission of organic light from the OLED panel and minimize external light reflections during darker scenes.
The company’s Gaming OLEDs emit the lowest level of blue light in the industry and approximately half the amount emitted by premium LCDs. This reduction in blue light not only minimizes eye fatigue but also eliminates flickers, providing gamers with more comfortable and enjoyable gaming sessions.
LG Display is set to launch the 27-inch 480Hz QHD Gaming OLED display during the first half of the year. Meanwhile, the company will unveil its full lineup of Gaming OLED displays in sizes 27, 31.5, 34, 39, and 45 inches at CES 2024 as it announces its entry into the high-end gaming display market.
LG Display’s Gaming OLED displays in the 30-inch range are the latest additions to the already impressive lineup. Most notably, the new 34- and 39-inch Gaming OLED displays offer an ultra-wide (21:9) aspect ratio for an immersive gaming experience, while the 31.5-inch panel supports a UHD (3840x2160) resolution that makes it suitable not only for gaming but also for office work and content consumption.
"To strengthen our leadership in the high-end gaming display market, we will continue to harness the power of OLED's distinctive qualities such as ultra-high refresh rates, fast response times, and perfect black for next-level viewing experiences,” said Won-seok Kang, Vice President and Head of the Large Display Product Planning Division at LG Display.

LG Display Unveils Automotive Display Solutions Optimized for SDVs at CES 2024
SEOUL, Korea (Jan. 01, 2024) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that it will unveil its next-generation automotive display solutions at the world's largest IT and home appliance exhibition, CES 2024, held in Las Vegas in January 2024.
Under the theme of ‘Shaping the future of mobility space,’ LG Display will present its innovative automotive technologies for global automakers and auto parts companies in Las Vegas Convention Center (LVCC) to further accelerate its order-based business for automotive display solutions optimized for Software-Defined Vehicles (SDVs).
Also known as ‘smartphones on wheels,’ SDVs are associated with ‘screenification,’ a concept that refers to the increase in the number of automotive displays within a vehicle as various vehicle control and infotainment features continue to advance.
LG Display will showcase various large-sized automotive display solutions that completely cover the vehicle’s dashboard, leveraging differentiated technologies such as P-OLED, Advanced Thin OLED (ATO), and LTPS (Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Silicon) LCD.
The ultra-high-resolution P-OLED features a flexible plastic substrate for a lightweight and flexible panel. ATO, on the other hand, utilizes glass substrates to offer the core strength of automotive OLED at a more competitive price point. In addition, LTPS LCD is a high-performance panel that enables larger and higher-resolution displays compared to existing LCDs.
LG Display will also introduce its safety enhancement solution, ‘Switchable Privacy Mode (SPM),’ which automatically adjusts the display’s viewing angle away from the driver’s line of sight to keep their eyes focused on the road. When active, content such as movies or games being displayed on the front passenger’s side is diverted away from the driver’s side so that only the passenger can watch it.
Furthermore, the company will also present solutions that offer new driving experiences while maximizing space efficiency within the limited confines of a vehicle, such as Slidable and Foldable OLEDs installed in the back of seats that can be hidden away or extended for use on demand.
“We will continue to strengthen our global leadership with our latest optimal automotive display solutions for the next generation of mobility,” said Byeong-koo Kim, Senior Vice President and Head of Auto Business Group at LG Display.

LG Display’s Third-Generation OLED TV Panels Receive Global Recognition for Eye Comfort
SEOUL, Korea (Nov.08, 2023) – LG Display, the world’s leading innovator of display technologies, announced today that its third-generation OLED TV panels with META Technology have earned yet another performance verification and certification from global certification organizations, demonstrating that LG Display is at the forefront of pioneering displays that prioritize eye comfort.
UL Solutions, a global leader in applied safety science, tested LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panel for blue light wavelengths that can cause eye fatigue and sleep disorders. LG Display’s advanced OLED panel earned a score of 36%, the lowest level among all existing TV panels, and received a Platinum rating and the UL Mark for low blue light. For comparison, blue light wavelengths emitted by conventional LCD TVs reach levels ranging from 70 to 80%.
Unlike LCD TVs that require a backlight unit, LG Display’s OLED TV panels feature a cutting-edge self-emissive structure that allows each pixel to emit light individually, which helps to significantly reduce blue light wavelengths.
This year, UL Solutions has implemented more stringent criteria for measuring blue light emissions in an effort to give consumers more reliable information, with program ratings now classified as Platinum, Gold, Silver, and Bronze. The top rating, Platinum, is awarded to display products with blue light wavelength emissions that sit below 40% of the total blue light wavelength emissions.
In addition, LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panel also offers minimal reflections from nearby objects, earning it the ‘Reflection-Free’ certification from Intertek, a leading Total Quality Assurance provider to industries worldwide. Reflections are attributed to deteriorating color accuracy and overall image quality, which are known to cause eye fatigue. From Intertek’s testing process on the ratio of external light reflected on the screen, the third-generation OLED TV panel achieved an industry-leading reflection ratio of less than 1%.
Prior to receiving these certifications, LG Display’s OLED TV panels were already recognized for their optimization for eye comfort by becoming the world’s first TV display to receive the Eyesafe® certification developed jointly by the U.S. eye safety organization Eyesafe Inc. and TÜV Rheinland for their remarkably low blue light emissions and flicker-free status.
LG Display’s latest META Technology incorporates ‘Micro Lens Array (MLA)’ to maximize light emission from the OLED panel and a brightness-enhancing algorithm ‘META Booster,’ resulting in the industry’s highest peak brightness of 2,100 nits and a 22% enhancement in energy efficiency when compared to existing OLED TVs under the same brightness level.
“These latest certifications once again prove that LG Display’s third-generation OLED TV panels with META Technology not only offer outstanding image quality, but also prioritize eye comfort in providing customers with a user-friendly display,” said Min-kyu Jin, Head of Marketing Operations Division at LG Display.
